Welcome to our tour of a fish hatchery! In this section we'll take you through the entire process of culturing a fish. This tour covers the culturing of the striped bass for stock enhancement purposes. The techniques used to culture this fish are nearly identical to those used in a commercial culture fishery, although minor differences might exist in the culture processes of different species.

We recommend you take the tour in chronological order, starting in the capture grounds and ending with the finals release of the hatchlings.

The tour begins with the aquisition of eggs and sperm from which the new fish are cultured. Go to the Capture Grounds to learn more about this process. Often live spawning fish are captured and stripped of their eggs and sperm in a hatchery. Go to the Hatchery to learn more about this process. After the eggs are fertilized at the hatchery, they are transferred to tanks and then ponds. Go the The Fish Pond: Part 1 to learn more about this process.
