Description |
| There are more than a hundred species that belong to the rockfish family.
Only one exists in the Atlantic Ocean. Rockfish are slow growing and can
take many years to mature. Some species of rockfish have been known to live
longer than 100 years. Most rockfish are born alive. The Atlantic
ocean and Pacific ocean perches are
members of the rockfish family. Other commercially important rockfish include
the yelloweye, bocaccio, widow, and yellowtail rockfish. All rockfish have
venomous spines on their dorsal fins. The venom is mildy irritating to fishermen,
who wear gloves while handling the fish. |
