  Description

Needlefish is a generic term for some 50 species that belong to the Belondae family. Needlefish are not usually seen within the United States, but they are common in Europe and Asia. Needlefish have the ability to avoid fishing nets by skimming the water with only their tail in the water to propel them. The needlefish is considered a gourmet fish in Europe. The bones of its vertibral column are bright green which might prove unpopular to U.S. consumers.
