Once the fish is safely in the hatchery, it is stripped of its eggs, if it's female, or its sperm, if it's male. Play the video clip below to see how this is done.
Catching the fish
After the eggs are fertilized they are transferred to holding tanks, where eggs will develop and hatch. During the first part of their life the fish feed off the yolk in their egg sacs. The fish will remain in the holding tanks until the fish has disposed of its egg sac. At this time the young fry are transferred to culture ponds.
