The wit, wisdom and angst experienced by young chess champions is captured by writer/producer Lynn Hamrick in the 51-minute award-winning documentary, Chess Kids. Featuring international chess stars such as Judit Polgar, the Hungarian girl who at age 15 became the world's youngest grandmaster, and Josh Waitzkin, the real-life subject of Searching for Bobby Fischer, Hamrick interviews players in the World Youth Chess Tournament for Peace in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, the largest chess tournament of its kind ever held in the United States.

Continuing to air on over 125 public television stations, Chess Kids has received the 1998 Kids First! Media Award, 1997 Parent's Guide Children's Media Award, 1997 Gold Apple Award from the National Educational Media Network, the 1997 Gold Plaque at the Chicago International Film/Television Festival, and the 1996 Cine Golden Eagle. This humorous, lively documentary has won raves at screenings at the Taos Talking Picture Festival, the Denver International Film Festival, the Chicago International Children's Film Festival, the American Film Institute International Film Festival,the Breckenridge Festival of Film and the Northampton Film Festival.

Producer/director Hamrick's credits include episodes of FAMILY TIES, FUDGE, THE BABYSITTERS' CLUB and THE U.S. CONSTITUTION with Bill Moyers, as well as the feature films, FINDING KELLY, and SPLITSVILLE with Christopher Lambert. With Chess Kids , she gives us stimulating television that family audiences are sure to enjoy.
