Lynn Hamrick
Producer/Director of Chess Kids

A native of San Francisco, Lynn Hamrick grew up in Berkeley. Following graduation from Berkeley High School, she attended UCLA where she earned a BA cum laude in Theatre in 1972 and an MFA in Motion Picture Production in 1975.

After freelancing as an editor and script supervisor, Hamrick began her directing career by working in narrative educational film. She received an American Film Institute grant to produce, write and direct YOU'VE COME A LONG WAY RENE,an anti-smoking film for kids about a 12 year-old girl who imagines herself to be with the Marlboro Man.

After directing educational films, Hamrick got her start in network television with a directing observorship on the popular sitcom, FAMILY TIES. After directing multiple episodes of the half-hour comedy series, she went on to direct hour-long episodic dramas. Hamrick received the Directors' Guild Best Daytime Drama Award for TESTING DIRTY, an ABC Afterschool Special she directed.

A partial listing of Hamrick's television credits includes: SILK STALKINGS, multiple episodes of FUDGE, BABYSITTERS' CLUB, GROWING UP TOGETHER, MISSING REWARD, and the U.S. CONSTITUTION SERIES with Bill Moyers. Lynn's most recent feature film credits include, FINDING KELLY to premiere on SHOWTIME August 2000 and SPLITSVILLE which premiered on SHOWTIME December 1999. Lynn has recieved over 25 awards and grants for her work.

Chess Kids, a 51-minute documentary, was written, directed and produced by Hamrick. Airing on over 125 public television stations across the nation, Chess Kids was awarded the George Sidney Independent Film Competition Award at the San Luis Obispo Documentary Film Festival, a Cine Golden Eagle, a Gold Plaque Best of Category in the Chicago International Film/Television Festival, a Gold Apple at the National Educational Media Network, a Kids First! Media Award, and a Parent's Guide Children's Media Award.
