A. Kelly Pruitt Book signing and painting exhibition
One of the top cowboy artists and writers of our time, A. Kelly Pruitt, has returned to Taos to release his third book, For the Love of San Lucia, with a book signing and an exhibit of recent paintings, at the famous Indian Hills Inn, Taos Plaza.
Known and loved around the world
for his creative way of painting, sculpting and writing, A. Kelly Pruitt
is a one-of-a-kind in every respect. He says that he is a cowboy that knows
how to paint, who can write and tell it like it is. He stands out in a crowd
whether he is on a sidewalk or in the saddle. He has lived his life out in
the open and seldom sleeps in a house, preferring the simple dwelling of
a medicine teepee and a chuck wagon.
Kelly says there is always room
around his campfire for anyone hungry for biscuits, beans and most of all
a connection with what's real and honest; that is the Earth beneath their
feet, the heavens above their heads, mountains, valleys and the air they
breathe. These, he says, are still sacred.
Now, past 80, Kelly is among
the last of his kind. Still a striking figure, tall, straight and agile,
he is all cowboy, from his high-topped boots to his broad-brimmed Stetson
hat, which he says has seen many a stampede and hot day out under the Texas
sun. "And," he adds with a grin, "several marriages." Of his age, he says,
"Well, there's one thing for certain, when one passes 80 there is no way
to die young!"
