Indian Hills Inn, Taos Plaza hotel lodging
Taos, NM Tourist Activities for February 2008
by John F. Slenes and Indian Hills Inn, Taos Plaza

Ski season is in full swing! It is the last month for skiers before the busy spring break weeks arrive in March. These ideas are just a few of the scheduled festivals, shows, and other activities. Invest a little online research, make a few phone calls, and seek our Guest Service team's guidance, you'll find more fun filled activities. As usual, my advice is simple...plan more than just a weekend in Taos at Indian Hills Inn, Taos Plaza this winter!

February is still an affordable time to visit Taos. Especially when you choose Indian Hills Inn, Taos Plaza. Our basic directly booked rates start at a very reasonable $69 per night for a single. Use our popular Pay 2 Nights, the 3rd Night is FREE. For stays of 3 or more nights, that's a discount of 33% to $46 a night.  Stay a week at a time for $289 - That's under $42 a night. Want to stay for FREE? Buy you Sipapu lift ticket from us ($39+tax), your lodging is FREE. If you wonder why we don't offer packaged deals, it's because your end cost would be higher if we added the administration of those packaged extras. Don't forget, all our specials are ONLY available direct. They do not apply to any outside reservation service. Go direct, it saves us both $$$.

Remember, Taos' average nightly rate is over $80. We will SAVE you big bucks while providing a very clean, modern, comfortable, convenient room. Our deluxe single king rooms include a gas log heater - fireplace. Our family double queen rooms are freshly upgraded. NOBODY beats our value. We are Taos' Best Lodging Value. Period!

Maybe this is the year for you to enjoy a snowmobile tour with a local guide service.  Taos Ski Valley , Sipapu , and Angel Fire Resort ski areas are up and running for your snow fun and enjoyment. Links to other activities are at the Inn site listed below.

For the art lover, Taos has many galleries with special shows and openings throughout the month. The local museums also offer a wide variety of experiences, workshops, exhibitions, and shows, Museum Association of Taos . Taos Center for the Arts (TCA) presents several movies and performances throughout the year. Don't forget the local movie theater, Storyteller with 7 screens of entertainment. Further information can be found at many of the Taos area web sites including the Inn site listed below.

Prefer live entertainment? Taos' newest offering is Shadows, a sports bar & grill. Another choice is Ronnie Lee's Supper Club with fine dining and live music. Most ski areas offer some apres ski live entertainment some nights. Several other venues offer live entertainment ranging from Rock to Country. Taos School of Music offers concerts and seminars throughout the summer. Maybe you'd like to hone your artistic skills? Try Taos Art School .

Just want to relax? You can always do that at Indian Hills Inn, Taos Plaza in our cozy lobby with fireplace. You are invited to use our BBQ grill. Perhaps a massage or other spa treatment is what melts your butter? Taos offers a wide range of providers of the many differing forms of spa and massage therapy. There are a couple of health clubs that offer day passes. The town has a swimming pool for those who seek a wet suit. Just a few miles distant is Ojo Caliente Mineral Springs . Summers, Guests appreciate our newly remodeled and solar heated pool.

If wandering around is your wish, it's a year round past time. Start with historic Taos Plaza with shops, galleries, food, and entertainment. Just North of the Plaza is Bent Street with more sites and the Bent Museum. Just South of the Plaza is Historic Ledoux Street and a couple museums. West of the Plaza is Kit Carson Road and more fun corners to explore. North of the Plaza, you'll find Paseo del Pueblo Norte, another relaxing stroll through time. If you travel with a non skier (perish the thought), Indian Hills Inn, Taos Plaza offers one of the downtown area's most convenient locations for that person to Experience Taos.

A must see on your visit to Taos is Taos Pueblo . The Pueblo is one of the world's greatest historical and cultural sites and one of the few World Heritage Centers that are occupied. Feel the need for a little action? Taos Mountain Casino offers a smoke free environment with video and reel slots, video poker, craps, blackjack, and a deli.

If your favorite line is "the worst day fishing beats the best day working", the Taos area offers many choice fishing holes. Assuming solid ice, Eagle Nest lake is an ice fishing haven an hour from Taos. Taos has a number of stores and guides for all your angling needs.

Although later in the year may be more appropriate, thee are a variety of golf courses available in the Taos area. From close at hand Taos Country Club to more distant pueblo and community courses, the vistas of Northern NM are a unique experience for most golfers from other parts of the country.

Day long self guided drive trips take too much detail for this short article. You can drive, hike, photograph, and more along these paths. Here's a short list: Enchanted Circle, Wild and Scenic Rivers, High Road, Los Alamos, Whittington Center, Cimarron and Philmont Scout Ranch, Dunes National Monument, US 64, and others.  More information on things to see and do in Taos are located at our Indian Hills Inn, Taos Plaza web site, the Chamber, the Forest Service.  Email me any questions or further information, indianhills@newmex.com or jfslenes@aol.com.
